Right across Puerto Princesa bay on a little peninsula where we live, Besties Bar and Café is heaven sent! The food is excellent and affordable. The open air atmosphere is delightful and the fresh sea air is invigorating.
Besties' located in the Dolphin's Haven compound, so far has the best food around! Their meals are a feast for the eyes as well as the tummy. They use the best and freshest ingredients. There are two huts you can sit in Japanese style or sit in the main area on regular chairs. It is in a lovely garden setting and such a peaceful place. I wind up wandering the grounds after I order to take photos of all the beautiful flowers.
It is well worth the trip to get here. It is situated in Barangay Mangingisda and can be gotten to by local ferry boat from Puerto Princesa fish port going to Mangingisda fish port in 35 minutes and 35.00Php only. It is a nice and relaxing ride on the ferry. If you have a motorbike or bicycle, the ferrymen will help you load and offload for an extra 35.00 PHP. From the fish port, hire a trike for 20 pesos to Dolphin's Have which is 5 minutes or less away.
You can also drive here from Puerto Princesa city via south Highway. Turn left at the Mangingisda turn off just before Kilometer 31, or the only paved road on the left heading on South Highway and past the Phoenix gas station. Take that road all the way to the end, and it will naturally take you to the right, follow that till it almost ends and you will see a sign for Dolphin's Haven. You have arrived. Via car, it will take you an hour from the city center.
They also have adorable native kubos for rent nightly which come with breakfast for 2. This is more than just a restaurant off the beaten track. They have very nice rooms for rent in well-appointed native huts. They also have a 400-meter nature walk through a mangrove forest on a bamboo bridge, which ends in an area where you can also swim at high tide if you stay in or eat at the restaurant.
