Hen House American BBQ & Grill

A new favorite restaurant of ours in Puerto Princesa! Hen House American BBQ & Grill, which serves American style sauce BBQ chicken, pork and beef. The menu comes in an old fashioned box with the menu written on index cards inside; a novel idea as it allows them to easily pull items that are out of stock, and save people the disappointment of ordering something they can't have. That has happened to me too many times in restaurants here. I applaud this creative solution. Being out of stock is an annoying and all too common an occurrence in many restaurants in Puerto Princesa. Anyway, I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw. It came, and I said loudly that there was no way I was going to be able to eat the whole thing. Next thing I know I look down at my plate and there was not even one remaining morsel.

They supply bottles of extra sauce on the table so you can add more if you are inclined. I was inclined! If you love American style barbeque sauce on meat, then this is the place for you.

Our friend ordered the pile of pulled pork with toasted bread. His plate didn't have anything left on it at the end of the meal either. It is the same pulled pork they put in the sandwich so it was no wonder his plate was bare.

There is a saying that the secret is in the sauce, this is definitely the case here. Aside from the various meats being fall off the bone tender, the three different sauces we tested were heaven to my taste buds and for me a comfort food since I grew up eating meat in this type of sauce, as opposed to the dry rub BBQ.

This restaurant is under new ownership and they now do serve rice instead of bread for those who just have to have it!

The Hen House is located on Rizal Avenue going towards the old International airport, on the left-hand side of the street if you are coming from Junction 1 in town and across the street from the Best Western Hotel.
